Why I have never been inside my favourite shop in Dalston.

My favourite shop in Dalston is Kilim, on Kingsland High Street, close to Dalston Junction. I walk past it almost every day and still can’t quite figure out exactly what it is that they sell. Their window display seems to contain everything from shawls to beaded artefacts defying description and plastic crucifixes (or is it crucifices?) to large feathered orbs, which lack any unifying theme aside from ambiguity of purpose.

The main reason I have never ventured inside is due to the extremely creepy sign which glares at you as you go past, aggressively inviting you in for a ‘look around’.
